The British author uses a conversational tone as he describes his experiences living in Japan. He often contrasts Japanese vs. European culture and adds humor throughout such as embarrassing moments due to not knowing the mores. It's an easy read where one gleans information about Japan as he definitely experiences many things. While I wouldn't want the author to date my daughter, his exploits revealed some of the nuances of the young adult culture as well. (There is no explicit content.)

I've read many other books from people living in Japan and telling their stories and experiences. Unfortunately, that one was not the most interesting, and definitely the title is bolder than the content.

A very well-written, funny, and relatable book about a British English teacher's interesting and heartfelt experiences of working for a year in Tokyo (and, previously elsewhere in Japan). This book was very engaging, and did an excellent job of describing the modern-day (21st century) daily experiences encountered by a foreigner living and working in Japan. My desire to visit Tokyo and the rest of Japan have been further increased after reading Garett's book. I hope that he continues writing about his experiences of living and working in Japan.

Overall I enjoyed this book, it was a breeze to read through. I can't say I would give it racing reviews but it was nice

Very interesting and funny. A great look at modern Japan. Some sad and shocking parts but very warm too. Recommend to people interested in visiting or living in Japan.

Very enjoyable read. Talented author with a Bill Bryson style and sense of humour. I've been to Japan once. This book connected so many dots and has inspired a return trip. The subtitle was a red herring for me. I wasn't expecting it to be so humorous

This book will make you laugh and cry. Anyone whose ever worked as an ALT in Japan can relate to almost everything this man felt and experienced. He also does a great job dropping in fun facts about Japan in a way that connects with the larger story at hand.

Fast and fun read. This book explains a lot about what we experienced on our recent 6 week trip to Japan. Garrett's an excellent writer! Pick up this book and enjoy!
