This is an excellent resource. There is so much you can do to make it much likely that you will enjoy greater mental clarity, more joy and more energy as we age. If you want to be playing with your grandchildren and great grandchildren in your 80s, 90s and beyond, this book is for you. Learn why our brains can get into trouble, and most importantly, learn what you can do to protect your brain and keep your vitality as you age.
I found this book very helpful for not only improving my poorly maintained brain (my bad choices assisted by too many medications & supplements) but also helping with other chronic conditions. Our traditional medical methods can work wonders but when it turns into a pack of specialists with different opinions of what is wrong, healing just plain stops. Because Dr. Sharlin addresses the entire picture of the patient, the entire system improves (yeah!). The other authors in the book also have fabulous insights for systemic healing. At least one of those authors has been 'over the top' helpful. They helped me find a practitioner in my area.
Dr. Sharlin is not only an incredible physician, but an excellent writer (a rare gift indeed!. This is a very enjoyable read with very practical tools that can be applied to optimize brain health! Dr. Sharlin applies a functional medicine approach to neurological disease with the goal of addressing not only diet and lifestyle factors that certainly play a role in chronic disease but also by considering the patient as a whole including antecedent events that are at the root cause of a disorder. When upwards of 80% of chronic disease is preventable, it is refreshing to read a book written by a compassionate doctor who maintains hope that we can effect change by empowering patients with the appropriate tools for wellness. Well done Dr. Sharlin congratulations on a most excellent book!
This book was very helpful and usefull. I plan to take the author's advice and apply it to my own life. However, it was as he called it a little too sciencey at times. I think the info in it would be useful to everyone!
Dr. Sharlin has put together a fantastic science-backed and practical resource for people who want to optimize their brain health. I really enjoyed his weaving the core concepts of Functional Medicine with neurology. Its also packed with cutting-edge and straightforward tips on how to keep your brain healthy. Highly recommended!
Terrific read. I’m in my early 40’s and found this book extremely educational and useful for my future neurological heath. I also bought a book for my mother and one for my father and they both absolutely love it.
Dr. Sharlin is an out of the box thinker and a pioneer in an age where are more questions than answers. His teaching can not only control the symptoms of chronic disease but very well change their trajectory. That is to say, change the course of pathology. That is an utterly profound statement, let that sink in. He is not only a board certified neurologist but a functional medicine phyiscian. His approach to disease is understanding the whole patient, not only "matching a pill to the ill". If you are willing to commit to playing an active role in your health you won't be disappointed.
